Letter of intent for SMP program? Please help!!!!

Hi,
I am waitlisted to an SMP program which I really need to get into to increase my chances at the school I am primarily interested in. Also for other reasons I can not apply to any other SMP's or Postbacc's, and I really need to makeup for my low GPA. The program doesn't start until september 9th, but I am still on the waitlist 🙁. Someone suggested writing a letter of intent, promising that I will attend if accepted to this program. I was wondering how I would go about doing this and if it's a good idea. Thank you so much!!!

Isn't letter of intent something that you write after you get acceptance?
I think it would suffice to send them a letter to express your interest in their program and willingness to work hard. Perhaps it might be a good idea to describe the situation you are in and how the SMP would help you get closer towards your career goals. Of course, it'll have to be a well-written letter for it to work to your advantage.
