Letter of Intent for Univ of Tenn?

my friends is a first alternate at Univ of Tennessee and I was wondering if he is able to write a Letter of Intent to increase his chances of getting into dental school. It works for med school so I thought it may work for dental school as well. Thanks!

He should, letter of intent can only benefit you since you can get any worse than being stuck in the alternate list. The end of 2004 cycle in near and your friend should take whatever measures he can think of to get in!

What does first alternate mean? Did he apply for fall 2004 and get turned down? Also, do you happen to know his stats (gpa, dat, experience)? I am trying to get into U of T for fall '05.

he told me that he is on the waitlist for fall 2004. he explained that first alternate is a list of applicants that are grouped together when they are picking people from the waitlist and this group is the first they choose from when getting people from the waitlist.

I do not know his stats and he is private about those things. sorry.
