Letter of intent question

Now I have all the decisions I need to send a letter of intent. Einstein rejected me and Stony Brook put me on the normal waitlist, which they never pull peopler from so I am taking this as a rejection.

Tufts deferred me earlier, which will turn into a waitlist or rejection at some point soon. Methodist said I’ll be interviewing for the waitlist soon. Upstate waitlisted me too.

I was considering sending a letter of intent to USF since there’s a chance they’ll take me off the waitlist due to me being high stat and OOS. Does this seem like a good plan? They say on their website that a LOI holds no weight, but anecdotally people on here say that it definitely matters to USF.

I'm aware you don't like them, but past admitted students say that USF does. I know it's completely meaningless since I have no A's, but I don't exactly have a choice here since everywhere else threw my app away.

If the website says don't send one, don't. If the website says you're welcome to, but they don't care, it can't hurt! If they don't say anything either way, send one in. Even if it doesn't help much, it certainly doesn't hurt! I don't understand all the negativity on SDN about LOIs.

It says they accept them but don’t factor into decisions, though from past cycles it seems like everyone who was taken off the waitlist sent one

I read through it, and it seems to discourage applicants rejected everywhere else from sending LOIs. As an update, SUNY Upstate just waitlisted me as well, so I have no chance at an outright acceptance this cycle and will have to beg a school that waitlisted me for admission. I think USF might be the best chance, and I would like to go there, but I obviously have no leverage. I will submit the LOI anyway, but the article you linked makes it seem like I'll be wasting my time.

Is your advice just to not send anything, give up on this cycle completely, and wait for next cycle? That doesn’t seem like it would help even if a LOI is meaningless without leverage
