My friend wrote a letter of intent for med schools he applied to, and received an interview a few weeks later from one of the schools and they thanked him for the letter. Does the same thing apply to dental schools? Would it be helpful to update schools on what you are currently doing? Does anyone have any success stories from this experience?

I think it depends. If your stats are not good enough, they are not good enough. But for some reason they overlooked your application or that they are a school that have a pile of applications (probably most 😆), it might help.

Interesting....where did they hear from?

i wont disclose specific information, but i will say its a med school in the northeast U.S.

I wrote an email to my state school in early Jan. this year, telling them that I am still very interested in their dental school. Within a week, I got an interview invite through email. I don't guarantee that it will work, but I do think it is worth a try! Good luck!

can anyone else speak for writing letters of interest?

or how about calling the actual school?

I dont know about letters, but I def called the schools I was most interested in at least once a week and recieved interviews from each. At one of my schools that I interviewed, I sent thank you letters to the dean, the professors who interviewed and the administration and was made an offer two weeks after. I'm not saying its def what did it, but showing appreciation does help.

You called once a week? That sounds like a lot of times. How long did you keep it up for, and what on earth did you say each time, other than how interested you were in the school?

I wrote two letters, 1 to a school I had already interviewed at and received no response from and another that hadn't selected me for an interview at that time

I sent the letters around mid December, the school that had already interviewed me still hasnt given me an update while the other school gave me an interview a few days later and I was admitted a week after the interview.

So take from that what you will, however I really dont know if the letter was the reason why I got an interview or if they were going to give me an interview anyway...in any case I dont think writing a letter of intent will hurt you at all, if anything it will get you noticed

However, be very careful how you word your letter, you dont want to sound overly pushy or disrespectful...
