Hello everyone,

I am currently a junior in college right now and I plan on applying to medical schools this coming cycle in June. I had 2 schools that I would really love to attend that are my top 2 but out of those 2, only 1 is my #1 where I would commit to 100% if accepted and I really would like to be admitted here.

Now, I have not even applied or anything yet, and I was wondering what the general consensus is of sending both of my top schools letters of interest, stating who I am, my situation, that I plan on applying, and that theses are the best fit schools for me/why. Is this too much or would it be something that can't hurt? My intentions were to let them know how much interest I have in attending their program if accepted and to let them get an idea of who I am before I apply and possibly get an interview. Thank you guys!

Can't say I've really ever heard of this being done. I don't imagine it will make any impact at all since you would not have a file at the school and they will not remember you when application time comes.

These schools are busy dealing with the current applicants, waitlists, etc. If they get a letter from you and you haven't applied (and they have no idea who the F you are), they are probably gonna toss the letter.

Too much. All of this will be covered in your application, and chances are you will have the opportunity in your secondaries. They don't even have a file open for you right now. They're not going to hold on to your email/letter and associate it with your application later. It's going to go straight into the trash

Relax...focus on your application. My advice would be to not pick favorites. This process is way to random to fall in love with a school already (unless it is your state school). Wait until you interview there.

There's a much better way to let them know who you are and what your situation is: your primary.

And wouldn't you know it, someone has already come up with a way for you to show how great a fit they are for you: their secondary.

I can't imagine this would help you. Enjoy your junior year and worry about this stuff when you have to.

No point. It won't have an impact. Focus on making your app as strong as possible for all schools. You'd be surprised how many people end up changing their minds after doing interviews as to what their #1 is.

Waste of time. You and five gazillion other pre-meds also have that school as their #1.
