Hey guys, I have recently sent out my applications (about 2 weeks ago) and a question just popped into my head today. I have been searching for a while, but I cant find an answer...

I have shadowed and volunteered with a pair of oral surgeons for well into 300 hours. I have gotten to know them very well, and they have gotten to know me very well. I really enjoy working with them, and they offered to co-write a letter of rec for me. I think they are very genuine guys who really seem to be looking out for my better interests (plus they both teach at UW dental school) so I was ecstatic for them to offer to write me a letter! However, the question just occurred to me: will dental schools not consider this a letter from a "dentist"? I am under the assumption that any practitioner in the dental field would suffice, considering they have all participated and completed dental school.

If the letter is NOT considered from a dentist, then I am a bit SOL... this is because i have already submitted three other letters (one from O-Chem prof, Bio prof, and my current boss).

Thanks in advance! 👍

Is there a DDS/DMD after their name? If so, it's a dentist and you're 👍

Sweet! That is what i was thinking but I just wanted to run the question past the people on this board... And yes, one is a DDS, and the other is a DMD/MD

If anyone else has any additional info, feel free to chime in 😀

Yes, oral surgeons had to complete dental school so they are considered to be dentists. You're in good shape.
