Do any schools require that I directly send them a copy of my letters? Or for the most part is just giving PTCAS an electronic copy enough?

I would check with yoru schools if I were you but otherwise it is usually done electronically through PTCAS. Basically, you send a request out to you letter writers through PTCAS and give them a heads up (and to check spam folders too) and then they enter in the Rec Letter through PTCAS and submit it onto your PTCAS for you.
