Hi, I will be graduating by the end of 2008, take DAT in summer 2009, and apply for dental schools about June 2009.

I want to ask for a letter of recommandation to my Organic chemistry professor, microbiology professor, and orgo lab instructor.

My questions are..

1. are 3 recommandations enough?
2. do they need to be typed? or certain length? word count?
3. if I want to send it to 10 dental schools, will they have to send it 10 times?
4. if I get rejected in year 2009 and want to reapply in 2010, do I have to ask them for letter of recommandation again or will they be saved?
(I am worried that they will either move to different institution or foget who I am).
5. is there a way to check that dental schools recieved the correct letter of recommandation?
6. is there a way that I can read the letter?

1. Depends on the school.
2. Typed. Dunno about the rest.
3.You send them to AADSAS once.
4. If you get rejected, yes you have to get new letters of rec.
5. Call them
6. Yes, on AADSAS you mark that you DO NOT waive your right to read the letters. The assistant dean on UConn asked why everyone waives their right. She said that everyone should read what people are writing about them because it is a big part of the app.

1. I think it is. One from science prof, one from non science prof, and one from dentist.
2. No, no and no. But it probably won't look too good if it's 50 words.
3. Send it to AADSAS and they will do it for you.
4. They will not be saved on AADSAS.
5. Some schools will tell you what you are missing. If not, you can always call and ask.
6. You can. But it looks better if you waive your rights.

1) For me, 3 science professor + 1 dental LOR was enough for all schools
2) I'm guessing typed with your school's insignia and letterhead (for verification purposes)
3+4) No, i recommend using interfolio to keep track of all your LORs, then send it to AADSAS. in case you have to reapply, you have them archived on interfolio.
5) Definitely call and ask, just to be sure.
6) I wouldnt read it. Waive your right, its common courtesy.
