Letter of recommendation from physician?

My state school strongly suggests a letter of recommendation from a physician. Do most schools feel this way or do you think it would be fine to have recommendations solely from professors/research supervisors

The vast majority of MD schools do not request a physician LOR (maybe three exceptions?). Some schools that provide committee letters do want one. Most DO schools seem to like them and of those a good number want a DO LOR.

You usually don't need one, but I will say that during at least 2 MD interviews I was asked if I had a LOR from a clinician and what their educational credentials were.
