Hi, I want to apply in the coming fall and I would like some help to who I can ask a LOR. I was thinking my coach, my organic chem teacher, my bio teacher, my advisor for BioChem, and a committee evaluation. What do you guys think?

DO LOR

Organic Chem. Prof LOR

Bio Prof. LOR

or if you do a committee evaluation, that should count for two PhDs. Then your DO LOR. You could add in your Ochem Prof also. Just don't end up submitting like 10 LORs to the schools you apply to.

As far as I know, you don't count your committee letter as one of your LOR. Well, at least in my school, they didn't.
Committee collects the LOR and writes a comprehensive letter entailing all of the LOR and your interview with them (if they do interview with you).

Therefore, medical schools either receive 4-5 individual LORs (you sent it your own without going through committee) or 1 LOR from the committee (+other LOR you wish to send after the committee has sent them or w/e).

My school committee required me to get at least 3, preferably 5 LORs, and they sent it to schools (which meant the school received 1 LOR that had 5 LORs in it, if that makes sense).

Most schools you apply to will either require a committee LOR or 2-3 LOR's from your professors (sometimes a combination of both or neither.) So @MajorUnderDog was correct in what they said, because 2 professor letters can usually replace a committee letter. You will still need a DO LOR along with that.

Again a DO letter is basically a must.

Make sure your asking professors that really have an understanding of you and your ability to write you letters. I would much prefer a professor from a not so important class write me a heartfelt letter that can really vouch for my ability, than a professor from an important class write me a marginal letter. Just my two cents.

Hi,

SO DO is a must? I can get a letter from a MD doctor from Hopkins. Will this count? I appreciate all the replies and I do think the professor has to know me very well to write a LOR. Now how can I ask them? or in other words, can i just tell them i want a stellar LOR? or is that a little mean?

Some schools require a DO LOR. Some don't. But it will definitely help.

Same boat:

I have a DO letter, a cell bio prof letter, and ......still working on the other(s).

It is difficult to find people to write quality letters. I am a post-bac a few years removed from UG, and I haven't had any stellar post-bac professors other than my cell bio prof. Most every prof I have, I have for one semester in a class of about 30-50 eager and boisterous post-bacs who are louder than me.

Also if anyone already has a tactful way to inquire about quality or sincereness it would be appreciated.

You can have more letters if you want but as per the requirements I would recommend 2 science faculty, 1 non-science faculty, and 1 physician (DO). I had a MD letter, DO letter, 2 science profs, committee letter (though it was a year old), research PI, and manager from work [7 total].
