Oops! Wrong title, i meant to write Personal Statment heh :T
Hi guys,

The personal statement portion of the optomCAS application is seriously holding me back.

I wrote the first draft that I submitted to my school for the committee letter, so I ended up mostly rewriting a more personal one where I went into detail about why my grades don't reflect my true potential (overcoming shyness, family illness and deaths, and depression) and how I found myself by rediscovering my faith in Christ.

I was just wondering if this is too much detail, I know it's generally not recommended to talk to religious in a professional context.

I ended up writing a third draft combining the two, but I'm just wondering what was preferred, a succinct essay saying I did this, that and that, learning this. Basically how I gained people skills through work?

Or This happened because, therefore, ect. Or I overcame personal turmoil and I worked to gain working experience, ect.

I don't know if I'm making any sense here, but i'm just looking for some general suggestions, I suppose.

Thanks so much for your time 🙂

I want to know the same thing.. last year I never wrote anythng about my personal obstacles in my personal statement. I just focused on showing how i developed skills /etc. i talked about my personal stuff in the additional space they say you can to ure file. DO you think I should add my personal sutff into the statement or does adding it in as an extra suffice?

i thought i could just bump this thread and mention that i wrote it a wrong thread title!

obviously i meant Personal Statment 😳

"Please describe what inspires your decision for becoming an optometrist, including your preparation for training in this profession, your aptitude and motivation, the basis for your interest in optometry, and your future career goals."

I guess if you look at the personal statement essay topic itself, it seems to just talk about your experience pertaining to optometry itself, yet I've read on this forum that the personal statement is a place to address any weaknesses on your academics?

I guess that's what was confusing me, whether personal struggle/triumphs were relevant to the topic?

And how big a deal is it if I were to include religion? I don't have any agenda on the matter, it just happens to be true for me in terms of importance in turning my life around so to speak

I didn't see the need to, as I thought that through OptomCAS they would all accept the same personal statement topic
