Hello everyone, im sure this question has been answered before but i just cant find it.

I have very average stats so I am applying to 30 schools (and 15 DO).

I have 5 very good letters and i was wondering if i coud just assign all 5 to every school that i applied to (same for DO) and then if they dont want them they can just toss them. Would that be okay?

I know secondaries require you to input which ones you're sending and for most schools it only has 3 slots. For all the schools i will be sending the ones i designated in the secondary as well as the extras.

Just wondering if it woud be okay.

It would also save me a ton of time because i did the secondaries before i got all my letters so i forgot which schools i assigned 3 which required 4 etc.. so it would be easier to just send all 5 everywhere and let them deal with trashing them or keeping them.

what do you guys think?

Sorry if hat made no sense lol im typing in a hurry!

OH and i dont really want to call every school to find out either...

Yes you can assign all five letters to every school.

Well, just give every school's letter's policy a once-over and see if anything sticks out. If you have a letter from a humanities professor and a school does not require it and you don't think their letter adds much to your application, you might do well to leave it off.

In general, though, you CAN send your letters to every school.

Thank you for the quicl responses and advice!

It really helped!

Good luck!

Some schools like George Washington (5) and U of Vermont (4) have letter limit (in the parentheses). You should respect their letter requirements. Though the schools I've seen that have limits usually limit to 5 letters as the lowest.

You can assign as many letters as you want to each school on AMCAS. Also under the letter section (tab), you can see what letters you've assigned to which school.

If you send extra letters to schools, they might randomly select letters that meet the maximum # allowed and toss the rest. I mean, you want them to read your strongest letters, so what if they toss out your best one?

It's a huge pain to read through and make sure you meet the letter requirement for each school. And a lot of school leave the # of letters info unspecified (meaning I guess they set no limit). But you should still be mindful.

DO schools also require a physician letter (MD or DO). Make sure you have that.

Also DO schools require an exorbitant amount of deposit, like $1000-$2000, I've heard. So some people apply to DO schools later, like in Sept, to make sure they have time to hear back from some MD schools before they have to pay deposit for DO schools within the time limit allowed to reserve a spot. Just throwing this out there for you to consider.
