I have been shadowing a resident for a while. Would a letter of recommendation from a resident fulfill the requirement of getting a letter of recommendation from a practicing physician? Anyone know?

I'm doing the same thing. I've been shadowing an ER physician. It never says once that the LOR needs to be a physician in his or her own practice. A resident is a full-fledge doctor so i don't see why you couldn't use them for a LOR. So I say go for it. It's hard enough to find a doctor to shadow let along ask for a LOR. Good luck and I hope this helps.

i think it should be fine..as long as he can put 2 letters after his name when he signs the letter 🙂 who knows, since the resident is a recent graduate, maybe adcoms are more quick to remember him when he was in med school , if you are applying to the resident's same med school

I used a resident with no problem. I think as long as you get 'em after they attend graduation you're golden.

Thanks everyone for your help. 👍
