Do schools accept letter of recs from instructors at junior colleges who do not have the professor title?
I took anatomy last semester at a junior college after I graduated from UC Davis last year, and I got the highest points in the entire class. Since I did so well and the instructor is my most recent instructor, I want to ask her for a letter of rec. I'm just worried that schools won't accept it because she doesn't have her PhD. She did, however, get her master's of arts at UCSF and have been teaching anatomy for 25 years.
So what should I do? Should I ask her for a letter of rec or should I go back to Davis and ask one of my professors who probably won't remember me for a letter of rec??

It's going to be up to individual schools on whether they accept a letter of recommendation from an instructor at a junior college or not. So ask the individual schools to which you'll be applying.

That said, if the schools don't care, I would definitely use her. It sounds like she will be able to provide a much stronger LOR than an older professor of yours.

I took all my pre-reqs at a community college. One of my LORs was from my chemistry professor, he has taught me through all 4 chemistry classes, he is an amazing professor and makes the class fun. He has his master's degree, but no PhD, he does LORs all the time. I would say it depends on the school but I doubt that it is abnormal to get a recommendation from a junior/community college.

Lucky you. There is no college in 100mi radius around here that offers O. Chem. Haha. Lousy North Carolina.

I see nothing wrong with it. A great LoR from a non PhD is a step above a poor LoR from a PhD. Basically, if you have no better options, you will be just fine with your anatomy teacher. Good luck.

I was in a similar situation as you: one of my LoRs was from an instructor who did not hold a PhD. I called my two top choice schools and asked if such a recommendation would be acceptable and they both told me that it would. You should call or email the schools you are applying to just to make sure. It doesn't matter what time of year it is I'm sure they get questions like this all the time.
