Tried to contact dentists thru emails and phone calls, did not find anyone wanting to allow shadowing. Frankly, I have not seen any dental office where there are student interns even. Is shadowing letter really required?

Also what is the lowest DAT to get in a dental school assuming one has GPA of 3.6 with Bio major- sorry for being so pessimist?

Did you ask your family dentist? Does your school have a pre-dental club or society or fraternity? Do you have any friends who have shadowed or have parents that are dentists? Any clinics in the area? Otherwise, keep calling/emailing, or maybe actually walking in and asking the receptionist if you can speak to the dentist for a second.

The letter is not required for most schools but the act of shadowing is.

Lowest DAT I'd say would be an ~18, anything lower and you're really pushing it. Of course you want to aim higher than that.

Ask your family dentist. If he/she refuses, it's time to switch to a new dentist. Also, aim for the highest in DAT, there's no guarantee that you'll get in even if you have a 4.0 gpa.

I have used many dentists over last many years but not seen anyone with a shadowing intern. I have seen is like more this is run like a one-man shop with one or two part-time support staff. I am out of school for along time and work in a unrelated area so hard for me to get shadowing letter/experience.
