Is it a bad idea to get a letter/letter or letter with multiple signatures from people you worked closely with but are not people with big titles? like Nurses, CNAs, unit secretaries?

I had my nurse manager write me a letter because I had worked under her for 7 years and she was a good judge of my character and work ethic. I would not have a floor nurse or a WC/CNA (I was one) as they really don't have much clout in the overall scheme of the medical school road. Nurse Manager is fine, usually they have title of "director of" whichever unit.

Most schools require the letters be confidential (I believe)- you're going to have a hard time with that if you're having people willing/unwilling to sign off on a paper you're circulating.

This doesn't sound like to swell of an idea.

I can't agree more with what has been stated already.

Be very, very careful about asking for letters from anyone lower than a manager outside of the DO or MD letters.

Remember, most programs will allow you 2 letters so do not waste these letters. Please don't think that I am stating that Nurses or other health care professionals cannot write a good letter. What needs to be considered is how they can honestly evaluate you as a Physician, which for many programs will be only those in Managerial or Physician roles for non-academic letters. Hope this helps and good luck.

They want the big titles. However, what you can try and do is have the people you worked closely with actually write the LoRs and then co-signed by the big names. This also applies to TA/GSI/post-doc LoRs that you can get co-signed by big name professors.
