Is a letter of intent a binding contract? I sent a letter of intent to a school, but now I am no longer sure I really want to go there. If I was accepted and I didn't attend and actually attended a different DO school could I get in trouble?

It is a letter of intent ie if you intend on attending there, sign it, if it is not your intention don't.
It's like when you agree to go to the dance with a girl, and you truely intend on going with her, but you at the last second get a better offer. All is fair in love and war. It happens all the time, but if you send them a couple grand to hold your seat, and you don't show up.... you can kiss the money good bye.

I think I understand; they can't hold it against you if they do accept you and then you actually dont' attend?

Sorry, I'm a little confused - but what is a letter of intent? Is it just a normal letter stating that you wish to go to that particular school, assuming you've already interviewed there?

That's what it is. It's just a letter trying to persuade the admissions committee into accepting you because of how much you LOVE the school and that you'd go there if accepted without any hesitation.
