When is it appropriate to send the adcom a letter of interest? What should you include in it other than updates about academics?

Now would probably be a good time to send it out, as the interviews are mid-cycle (staying positive). Put in any relevant information that will strengthen your file. Volunteering, research breakthroughs, new revelations about the school, etc.
