should i ask letters of rec from science professors? what about professors you have good relationships with, but are not science prof.?

I think you should ask for letter of Rec from any professor you can. Be sure that the professor like you or that you had an A in the course.

You don?t want a letter saying,

XX got an A in the course like have of the other students. I really can not judge if XX is a qualified dental school applicatant based on this performance.

Some thing like that. It is good to get a letter from professor that know you personally. If they do not, provide them with personal statement, DAT scores, Activities in college, and transcribes to give them information to write about other then your preformace in class.

Based no my experience, I suggest getting LOR from Biology, Chem, Upper division sci, non-sic, dentist, employer, and possible a minister for private schools (Loma Linda).

i agree that who ever you get them from, they should know you fairly well and know that they will do a good job. but make sure and check what your schools are looking for. usually, it is 2 science profs and one non science.

Get all profs you can, and have them sent to the health professions committee for evaluation (if you have one...which most schools in the US do).

The health professions/premed/predent/health science committee is also a very good place to get a letter of recommendation.

Get one from your personal dentist or dentist friend. Whoever you did research with in undergrad, your employer, pretty much anybody with the credibility to judge you and speaks highly of you. I actually think the best ones are from dentists and your course major coordinator/advisor (they usually teach at least one course req'd by your major).

Have all those letters sent to the committee mentioned above, and they will pick out the best ones to send out to AADSAS. If the committee is not available to you, then pick your letters wisely. Also, don't send ALL good ones to AADSAS. That's just overkill. Send the best 3-5 letters, but the HPO should automatically know not to send every good one out.

Hii,

Do LOR's have to be dated the same year you're applying to dental schools??

Nope. They can be from anytime during your undergrad/grad education.

My LORs were amassed over my four years of undergrad and kept on-file at the preprofessional advising committee-- They put together my LOR package and sent it to the schools I applied to for me.
