So i'm filling out my secondaries and I'm noticing that a lot of schools require letters from the grad school in addition to undergrad LORs. I'm going to be attending a one year SMP program NEXT year, and some schools are saying I need a letter from the graduate school i've matriculated at.
I'm kind of confused a. because i haven't actually attended this school, just been accepted so what exactly is my rec. letter going to consist of and b. because i haven't requested the letters yet i'm worried its going to delay the processing of my application.

how lame. anyone have any insight on this type of situation ?

Common sense would suggest that if you haven't attended the school yet, you won't be expected to get an LOR. Just put in the start date for the program on your secondary app, and they should get the idea.

P.S. Why are you applying this year if you're planning on an SMP next year? Is that just your backup plan? If so, I'd leave it off the application entirely.

yeah common sense would..but NYMC says " If you are a matriculated graduate student or you have completed a graduate degree, please read this section...
If you have just begun your graduate studies, or are in a non-degree program, you must submit one Letter of Evaluation from a faculty member whose graduate level class you attended or are attending this semester."
Then on the secondary it says to fill it in as TBA under the person who is going to be submitting for you and then email them later about it. MCOW says something similar.. they want a letter even if you've just matriculated.

i have a question about this same topic:

I had two grad school letters sent to my college's premed committee and was surprised that NYMC asks for an extra grad school letter and considers the premed committee's letter to be just undergrad. I wouldn't mind asking one of my profs for a letter but i was wondering how prevalent is this request? could I somehow tell them that it will be included in my committee letter?... I would hate to ask for a letter that would only be sent to one school.

ok so i'm in a similar dilemma and didn't want to start a new thread. so i'm in my first year at grad school of a two year masters and i plan to apply this coming june for fall 2012 entrance (i graduate here may 2012). some schools require a letter from the dean...does does that mean any dean? or the dean of your program? furthermore do the letters have to be from classes that you've taken or can one be your advisor? there's not really standard with these letters is there...
