I'm so worried about my letters. I noticed several uc's are really specific like senior faculty only and ucsd goes as far as saying only bio and chem professors for sciences. All this is bad for me, because I notice that half my professors at ucla are assistant profs, adjunct profs....
Does anyone know how strict they are about all this. I just wrote UCSD to ask if my letters from a bio and physics professor are ok. I'm just so frustrated...to pay 30 for AMCAS only to realize I may not be able to apply afterall.
Anyone have a similar experience?

Is this true? if you can, please provide me w/the link that shows UC schools wanting letters of recs from specific professors.

anyone else care to elaborate? thanks

So far UCSD is the only one I have seen but I haven't heard from UCSF or UCLA. Davis and UCI both ask the generic two science one non-science. UCSD is high on my priority list but if they're not flexible about my letters I'm going to have to bow out. I tried to see if this was on their admissions web site but no luck. The only rules about letters of rec were on the secondary. I'll write back if they decide to ok my letters

I actually wrote to UCSD a couple of months ago and asked about their requirement, because all I have are 2 Physics, 1 Chem, and a nonscience professor. They ask for 1 Bio and Chem and 1 humanities. They wrote me back and said that the 2 physics and chem would be ok, but they didn't say anything about the nonscience professor (who is not a humanities teacher). So you should be ok with their requirement as long as you have a humanities letter also. I'm interested to hear what they say about the "senior faculty" thing, if you asked them. I don't think any of the science classes I've taken were by senior faculty. How would they know anyway whether someone was senior or assistant/adjunct?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I wondered if maybe this was just a backhanded way of saying "Don't send us letters from TAs."

I'm just curious, for those of you who have already applied and turned in secondaries, what courses would you recommend getting LOR's from if we want to be safe. Do most schools require a letter from a bio (upper divs are ok, right?), chem, and humanities professor? I would be in trouble becuase I finished my chem a while ago and didn't really think that I would need a LOR from my o-chem professor and if I ask now, she would totally forget who I was. Any suggestions?

Official word from UCSD, two science and one non science. Phew
