Hey Guys..

My advisor sent a letter of rec for me way back in November to SCO, SUNY,and SCCO, and only SCCO received it, but the other schools didnt.
My advisor then send it again to those school again at the end of december, and the schools have not yet received it. It is holding back the final decision of my application, and I am so frustrated.
I did verify with my Advisor the correct address, and everything.
Its just weird how only one school in California ( where I live) got it.
Has anyone else experience the same problem with the same schools, such as in your transcript was not received?
Could it be the postal service's fault by any chance that my letter is not mailed?
Everyone please feel free to comment, and any suggestions would be great!

Perhaps if this problem continues you can ask if the letters of rec can be sent via fax first, then mailed. I had a problem with an optometrist that agreed to send a rec letter but kept putting it off. I had my interview at SCO and found out that he still hadn't sent it by then (8 weeks after repeated reminders). Robin Graves at SCO suggested (for purposes of earlier decision on my acceptance) that I have him fax a copy and THEN mail it. The original mailed copy was required, but the fax allowed them to have something to work with sooner.

You might also see if you can pay the additional funds to have your advisor to add delivery confirmation, send it by registered mail (sounds like what you need by the link below), etc. on the letter that will inform you when the school has received the letter. It might be lost not in the mail itself, but once it has arrived it might be misplaced within the school. Try visiting USPS.com and checking out info. You might be able to purchase a shipping label for this type of mailing online. I'll add a few links that might help. Other than this, I don't know what to tell you. Good luck!

I am so glad that someone raised this question, because i have been having the same problem, and honestly my teachers are not even that helpful, even though i am their assistant too. Well, gioiarioia thanks a lot for showing us other options.

i would suggest using one of those letter storing/mailing services if your school offers it. there is a small fee to pay, but i think it's worth it b/c every single one of my letters were received and saved me a lot of headaches. gluck! 👍

You are very welcome. I wish everyone the best!

these are very good tips !! thanks for posting 🙂

I got my letters lost. So the important ones (optometrist and 2 profs) I gave them ExpressPost envelopes. They have tracking # and everything, so I have proof if the prof. did send it and where it is.

very helpful post guys

I also had this problem. I had to have my optometrist send her rec letter 3 times to ICO! The address was correct and everything (I made addressed and stamped the envelope for her). When I went for my interview, the letter hadn't arrived for the 2nd time, so they suggested I fax a copy in. Then, I also had to have her send a another hard copy. The fax and third hard copy both got there finally.

Good luck!

Hey Guys! Thanks for all the input, I think its great that we can all share our experiences.

I have good news, the schools FINALLY received the letter, after 2 months and calling them every day of the week.

Now I learned my lesson, to never trust the post office, and to always get express delivery and signature confirmation for important letters and documents.

I wonder where do all the lost mail go?

Probaly on a never ending journy around the country 🙂

Hey Guys.. Today I received a christmas card in the mail that came from SCO,
it was postmarked Dec 13th, and I just received it today, Jan 14, 2005. *WOW* 😱
Oh and also when i was invited for an interview, the letter they sent me was postmarked dec 6 but I didnt receive it until dec 22. Luckily I also received an email from them so i was able to book my interview before getting the letter.

No wonder it took forever for my letter of rec to be reached.

No offense The postal service in memphis is really unreliable. 👎

Don't take it out on the Memphis postal service, they've always come through for me! 😀
