Hello,
I was wondering if any one knows of a service that stores your letters of recomendation for you and sends them when needed. I unfotunately did not take advantage of this service at the school that I attended. Thanks for you help.

[edit: ha - beaten to it 😉 ]

I used interfolio.com who were good. There are others.

How do medical schools view an applicant that uses a letter collection service? As opposed to an applicant who has their writers mail them out.

For instance,

I am considering using a letter collection service because I am worried that the medical schools will not validate my writers, due to the fact that the envelopes will all look the same, (i.e. I provided all of my letter writers with a packet of envelopes. Will the medical schools think I sent them??? Does a letter collection service lend validity to an applicants 'file'???

Please Post quick, as I am beginning work on my secondaries, and need to either notify my writers to send to the medical schools directly, or to a collection service?

Thank you SDN community for your help,

P.S. I do not have premed advisor or a letter collection/ consolidation service at my university... go figure... don't ask me why. 🙄

a collection service is useful for only two reasons:

1. If you have many schools you are applying to it saves the writer making 30 copies and mailing them out. If they've already done this though this is irrelevant.

2. They have official 'waivers of rights' to view the letters which many schools like. However, those that really care about this will send you their own waiver for you to sign (eg Northwestern sent me one).

They are also good for tracking when letters went and that they really were sent, or resending copies when letters are lost by the admissions office (it happens sometimes - happened to me with one school even though they told me the week before they had them...). However, if you have already provided envelopes and the profs already made all the copies - I can't see any reason the letter forwarding service would be better. It would definitely be more expensive.
