Applying for fellowship this year.

Wondering, should all my LORs, except the medicine PD letter, be from cardiologists? I have a critical care attending LOR that would be strong and was wondering if I should use it.

Thanks,
Joe.

I think you can use it, although would suggest getting at least 2 LOR's from cardiologists if you can.

I agree that your letters should likely be from Cardiologists. When you say that the letter from the Crit Care attending would be strong, what do you mean? Is the attending familiar with you as a doctor? That might be a strong letter, but not necessarily a letter that will win you points on yuour application. Is the attending well known and published? If so, is he/she well-known to critical care docs, or would the cardiologists also be impressed?

Beyond your IM PD LOR, two must be from Cardiologists who are familiar with your work. You may include the CCM LOR as a bonus if you'd like. Just make sure at least two are from Cards. :luck:

Thanks for the reply

The CC attending thinks of me as a strong resident; I don't believe he is well known or well published.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm leaning towards LORs from my IM PD, our cardiology fellowship PD (who knows me from clinical rotations), and two cardiologists who I've worked with clinically and done research with.

yeah, I would go all cardiology on this one. CC is not likely to help you much. In the weird world of fellowship match I could even see it coming across as a negative. "why couldn't he/she get cardiologists to write the LOR?" fellowship match sucks but it generally works out.
