In terms of letters of recommendation, why do dental schools put so much weight on letters from former professors (of a lecture science class)? If I graduated a few years ago those profs cannot really speak knowledgeablely about me, but dentists that I have worked with or scientists that I have done research with could.

Does anyone have recommendations about what to do?

Do schools really care if I have a prof that I have done research with as a letter of rec instead of one who I had a lecture from?

LOR have very little value if any. It all depends on your gpa/dat scores

well, it depends. if you happen to know a faculty member or perhaps the LOR from the person who interviewed you (slime chance, but it could be) more or less, your LOR is very important.

you want to have a professor that knows you well.
if you just get an A in his/her class, he could state that, but not very attractive.

do a search on LOR, there are so many useful suggestions.

LORs are very important to the application process. Many schools will not even look at your application if even one of your LORs is missing.
