I had submitted a letter from one science professor from my university and two doctors/scientists (one is a professor) that I researched with over the summer. However, that one other professor that I researched with never actually taught me. Does this still count? Should I be rushing to find another professor to send to AMCAS/TMDSAS? Or am I ok? Thanks

Is the other scientist you did research with belong to the Biology, Physics or Chemistry department? If not, I would check the school's LOR requirements that you applied to. Many want 2 BPC professors but not all.

I thought I had enough LORs with one professor and an MD I did research with -- for biology credit. But I quickly realized I need another Science professor. This might be the same case for you too.

this problem happened to me when i applied. it can be a major problem depending on the schools you applied to. some are very stringent while others will let it go. unless you are comfortable with knowing that some schools will be completely out of your reach because you don't meet their LOR requirements I would look for another LOR writer.

For those who have been in this position, will a school tell you "sorry, you're rejected because you don't meet our letter requirement" or will they just never get around to reviewing your file and say nothing?

JW, because I'm in the same situation - I only have one science LOR. However, all of the schools I have asked about it have said it's okay to use my PI as the other. But, I've probably only asked 4-5.

Since that's your "research" professor, I think it would count. 😎

One school emailed and asked me to clarify which two of my letters came from science professors that taught me in a credit-granting class; luckily I had two to give them. My take on the issue is if you got course credit for the research you did, a PI's letter would be okay. It was only one school that contacted me about this requirement though so I think you're good at most places.
