Hello Everyone. I was a bit confused on how letters of rec worked.

When I ask someone for a letter of rec, do I provide them with a link? Do I give them a deadline? Is there a place on aadsas that I direct them to? How does this all work? I have a professor that told me they would write me one, but what do I do now?

Sorry if this is something that should be common sense, but thank you!

Unless you are using interfolio, you provide the link from aadsas once it opens. You should give them a deadline so they know when you need it by, otherwise they will probably procrastinate writing it. If you didn't provide them with resume, PS, etc., I would ask them if they need any of those resources from you to write the letter, and if they would like those materials in hard copy or email (email means they won't lose it unless it goes to spam). then send the link and hope they follow through lol

Basically on the "Supporting Information" part of the application, there is a subsection labeled "Evaluations". All you need to do through AADSAS is type up the name of your recommender, their email, and the response due date (aka the due date of the letter). You'll also need to waive your right to view the letters, and give schools permission to contact your letter writer(s)-- these are simple Y/N questions. On the recommender's end, they'll get a link that will direct them to upload their letter, as well as input their phone number, occupation, professional title, and organization.
Ideally you'll want your letters in early, but to also give them at least 1 month to write a letter. I'd make the due date the last day you're comfortable with submitting your entire application. So for now, you can ask your recommender what they would need from you (personal statement, resume and/or CV, transcript, etc) and send it over. When the application opens on May 15th, you can input all that stuff above and they'll get a link to their inbox and upload whenever they're done. Hope this helps!
