I am getting ready to ask some of my professors for letters of recommendation, and have read that most schools want three letters of recommendations (2 science and one non-science/dentist). Would most schools that require 2 letters from science profs accept the third letter from a science prof as well. I feel that I have gotten to know my science professors much better than my non-science professors since I go to a big school in which most non-science classes that I have taken have been taught by TAs with a prof lecturing about 300 students.

Actually, all the schools which I applied to required 3 letters form science professors. It was optional to send recs from others. However, I feel that sending more than 3 recs is pushing it.

BTW, if you're curious, I applied to NYU, BU, Tufts, Buffalo, Stony Brook, UMDNJ, and Columbia. So those for sure require 3 recs from science faculty.

Out of that list, Buffalo, Stony Brook, and NYU do not have "hard" requirements on the 3rd letter being from a science professor. I did not have a 3rd letter from a science professor and it was not a big deal at those three schools. NYU and Buffalo didn't inquire about the third letter at all.

SB called me and asked if I can cough a 3rd one up, I said nah it would be too much trouble, and they said cool.

hey are you sure UMDNJ requires letters from THREE science profs?

does math TA count as science?

Dentwanabe: Yes I would definetly think so because math is counted in your science GPA.

Also, of course there are always exceptions but most of the schools do state 2-3 science faculty recs are recommended.
