Are LORs due with the ERAS application to make it complete? Also, what is the latest one can work with an attending and still have the LOR in on time? June, July, August, September, October, or November?

I'm planning to get a LOR from my Medicine Sub-I. But will also be studying for Step 2 CK and CS in July and August. So I need to plan the latest possible month that I can take my Sub-I and still have my Sub I LOR count in the application.

thanks

I'm pretty sure you can submit your ERAS application and add letters to it. The programs can then upload it. One of my letters came after I had sent out my application and I was able to add it. The latest I would recommend doing a rotation that you want a letter from would be September. Keep in mind it can be like pulling teeth to get attendings to write it. Good luck.

The earlier you have your letters in, the better, as this allows the programs to download and read as much about you as they can -- which helps them make the decision to invite you that much easier. ERAS opens to applicants and programs on September 1.

Note that when you submit your application, you should list the names of ALL your LoR writers whether the letter is in or not. (Note: Do not list the writer's name yet if you want the option of asking your school dean/advisor to warn you if the letter is badly written. I had that option, although I didn't use it.) You need to put their names because if you don't, the school will not upload that letter to ERAS! ERAS tells your school what letters to upload based on what you listed in your application.

I submitted my application on Sept 6 or so with 2 out of 3 letters. The secretary at my school responsible for residency took an extra day or so to upload my letters. So allow a couple of days for your letters to show up in ERAS.

The very latest your letters should be in by is November 1. However, if you have NO letters before say the last week of October, it will make it difficult for the programs to offer you an interview before that (and some specialties start offering interviews in the first week of September).
