Question for you folks...

Say you want a LOR from someone after you finish your rotation with them.

Obviously it would be better to get the letter soon after finishing the rotation as you will be fresh in their mind. But, if you don't need the letter until AFTER you register for ERAS and get a file started, what do you do?

How do you get a letter and hang on to it until the time you will be needing it?

Just curious.

Thanks

My advice, particularly if you won't see them again for a while (IE they're not at your home hospital, etc) would be to get the letter right after completing the rotation, while you're still fresh in the writer's mind.

Most likely, you'll have them send the letter to your office of student affairs anyway, who will deal with that stuff so you don't have to.

It's a good idea to get more letters than you plan on using anyway, so it doesn't hurt to start in your first rotation third year even.

The deans at my school advised that we ask for letters right after the rotation, but ask that the letter writer save the letter (on their computer) until we could furnish them with the release form from ERAS. Once we gave them the form, they could then send the letter to the student affairs office so that it could be scanned into ERAS.

Here's another advice I got from rotation. Have the LOR send to ur address in sealed envelope. Save the letters until school setup an account for the letters (like 4th yr) and gave them all to school. B/c the letter is still sealed, it's genuine and good to go.
