Hi,

I am in the process of asking for letters of recommendation for medical schools. I already got two letters written from science-course professors, but I still need a non science one.

I took several AP courses in high school which gave me college credit and some of them are non-science courses. I would rather ask for a recommendation from one of these high school AP instructors since I got to know them a lot better compared to other courses I took in college where classes were 300+ students and I never got to know those professors too well.

Is asking for a LOR to an AP high school instructor a good or bad idea? Thanks for any advice!

I doubt a high school teacher's LOR will suffice (even if they taught an AP class). If there is any possible way to get a college professor's LOR, do that. Even in 300+ student classes, there should be opportunities to e-mail the professor with links to relevant articles to show interest and to get your name into his or her mind. Don't underestimate the value of occasional office visits in initiating a personal interaction.

Your high school teacher's LOR might be great as an additional personal reference, but should not replace a college prof's recommendation. Do whatever you can to get a college prof's LOR. . .

Agree with above. Don't do it. Not only did they only know you like 4 years ago, they aren't a college professor/instructor even if you got credit through the AP test.

I concur with the above advice, and would also like to give you an 'awesome name bro' high-five.
