Is it better to give more than the required 3 science recommendations? For example, one from the dentist I work for and from the place I tutor?

jd,

Since nobody answered you yet, I'll take a stab at it:

I don't think you are allowed to submit more than the three letters that are requested by the application service and the school. That kind of makes you even with everyone else and makes you think hard as who you will pick. I may be wrong, but I don't think so.

I actually talked to an AADSAS customer rep. and he said you can send up to 5 letters with your application. He does not recomend sending more than that. If I were you, I would go ahead and send your dentist's letter as well, just one more thing that will help make you stand out.

I agree the max number turns out to be 5, at least that's what the AADSAS told me as well. Some undergrad colleges submit one Letter from the pre-Health office that covers letters from many professors. Mine does that. I also sent a letter from a dentist I am volunteering for to AADSAS directly. So now I have total of 4 letters. If you look on individual websites for the schools you'll see that many schools actually encourage you to send them letters from the dentists. However, as Columbia U. rep told me such letters are not the same as the letter from the sciece faculty. You still need 3 letters from science faculty. So yes send your letter directly to the AADSAS or talk to your prehealth office, perhaps they would like to incoroporate such a letter into one big one. This happens too.

thanks guys. i do know that the science recommendations weigh the most and the others are secondary. i can't wait til this process is over and i can get to interview...hopefully, i will get some.😛
