Just a quick question about LORs. I tried searching for this in old threads but didn't have any luck. When you fill out your VMCAS app, can you see and read the LORs that you have gotten before you submit the VMCAS. Or, is it just hope that the people you had to write one for you done a good job?

IIRC, and it's been 3 years so I am probably wrong, you can designate your LORs as open or closed meaning you would be able to read what they submit or not. I kept them closed to respect the process but 2 of them forwarded them to me to see what they wrote. When you ask if they will write a letter for you, be sure to ask if they would be able to write a strong recommendation. That usually tells you if it will be a good rec or not.

No you cannot see what they have submitted 😎 , unless they send it to you personally. You can also choose whether or not to waive your rights to see them later, but cannot see them until you have been admitted to and attending a vet school

Be aware that some professors will refuse to write letters for people who have not waived their rights. I plan to waive mine so I have no problem, and I'm in a different field, but I've heard of this from several different fields. If you don't trust them to write a good LOR, you probably shouldn't be asking them for one.

I had a professor tell me that some admissions people think less of a recommendation if you haven't waived your right to see it - they think the recommender is saying more good things about you than are true because you'll be able to see the letter later.

Not sure how widespread that is, but why take the chance?
