I'm confused about these different licenses I see at every states website. Before you start you residency, do you have to have a temporary/limited license, a institutional license, or no license since you are still training? 😕

Depends on your institution. You are not eligible for a state license until after your intern year. Some programs require you to have a state license for PGY2 and so on, while others will have an institutional license for the duration of the residency. If you plan on moonlighting, you need your own state license.

You generally start with a training license. After that, you can get an unrestricted license during residency (depending on your state requirements). These requirements are constantly evolving and you should know that several states now require completion of residency before an unrestricted license is issued.
