Hey guys,

Just to distract myself from worrying about the match itself, I started wondering about what happens after the match....

How does the program you matched at contact you?
How soon before your actualy start date are you expected to show up?
Is there usually a lot of orientation or not so much?
Is there a way to find out how to contact other people who will be interns in your class?

I know that these answers probably differ by institution, but humor me if you will and tell me how it is done wherever you are a resident.

Thanks,
J'kins

Ah, I can still remember Match Day last year around noon... The joy of knowing where you are headed, family/friends in town, parties that night...

We received an email saying congrats from the program. My program director called each of us. I can't remember if it was a few days later but it didn't take too long. We had to show up a week and a half early for ACLS, ATLS, and other orientation sessions (rules, badges, access codes, etc). Our intern class then usually got together those evenings for parties, baseball games, or dinner. I had friends who went to other programs that had an orientation month as their first intern month so they did not have to come in as early. A few days after Match, they emailed names and contact info about our new intern class after someone in the class requested it.

As worried as you are now, you will be excited, relieved, and having a great time come Match Day. Good luck and enjoy the remainder of the time before intern year! (It hasn't been that bad at all, but I sure miss 4th yr of med school!)

Seriously, and I mean it- just put yourself on autopilot for the next 4 months of your life. You won't need to do anything but sign some papers between now and mid-june. No go out, drink a beer, and relax for the rest of medical school, or I'm gonna slap ya. Yo mamma gonna slap ya too.

Not to mention finding a place to live... then packing and moving... ugh!!!! Feeling tired just thinking about it 😳 .

Would you, please?!

There I was, hanging out, reading fun books, playing video games and I see the comment about needing to buy a house. Great, my happy place is now being crowded by a banker, a real estate agent and a mover.

Take care,
Jeff

ooo... all this slappin' goin' on it's startin' to sound like a popcorn popper in here.

Seriously though. I just dropped my last 4th yr elective since I didn't need it anymore, so I have more time to do some fun stuff. I do need to find a house but I've already lined up some realestate agents in the prospective cities, and am going to get prequalified at my local bank. Will make the process a lot less painful. So now I can log back into Pogo and play some more Canasta.
