Sorry if this question is dumb, but I can't seem to find a direct answer and 2 other students couldn't help me either .
If DM is a problem with insulin, leading to hyperglycemia, what is it that causes a diabetic to become hypoglycemic ?
...taking too much insulin?
...the liver not releasing glycogen appropriately ?

Forgive me ignorance, any help is appreciated

Thanks

Taking too much insulin/not eating appropriately for the insulin dose given.

normally your body releases insulin in response to food, so there's always sugar being put into your body as insulin is being released.

when a diabetic is taking insulin, they're taking it regardless of food (they're supposed to eat, but sometimes they don't). if they don't eat, the insulin is going to do its job anyway. It'll pack away any glucose that's in the blood regardless of blood glucose levels.

insulin + no food = hypoglycemia

Thanks guys I really appreciate it, this was bugging me, I was afraid i was missing some giant obvious part of the pathological process

Thanks !
