Limiting physician salary

If this thread got a lil more on topic, I think what is glaringly missing from that whole fiasco of the UPS driver vs. the MD is the amount of training & responsibility required.

No one ever asks if they would let their loved ones get a surgery from a CRNA who watched a video on the surgery 1x. Got their hip fixed by a Chemical Engineer who read about it in a book and knows the section very well.

I am reassured that our airline pilots have hours upon days upon years worth of training. Being an airline pilot is a 6-figure job. No one complains. A bunch of poorly trained airline pilots would be disastrous! Why separate training and expertise from the job description when it comes to physicians!? UPS driver doesn't need a high level of training/expertise!

The cost of medical care and the salary of doctors depends on our levels of training, which yes, we paid for and is expensive. If they want to cut our salaries, then subsidize our education.

The powers that hold the purse strings, tell them to go to a NP or PA when they get sick. They are asserting by cutting our pay that it's all the same. Let that PA do the surgery on them. Let the NP care for them when they get cancer. Senator X, go to them. Don't waste your time going to Mayo or some other prestigious medical center. Because it's all the same! The Take Care clinic can handle all of your needs.

The bureaucrats want to cut our pay, but seek the most high priced sophisticated, well trained EXPERT doctor when it comes to their own health. Give me a break!

I think I could make an argument for both sides on this one. However, not mentioned in the letter is the cost of medical education in the US vs Germany/Australia etc, and the significant amount of liability.

Also, are there pediatricians earning ~80k per year?

Does anybody know how much physician salary contributes to the cost of care relative to procedures, logistics etc?

If there are pediatricians earning 80k a year they must be working part time. Physician pay in the US is the highest in the world. No other country values and respects physicians as much as the US and Canada do. Even in the UK physicians are paid 80-100k pounds a year which translates to 160-180k. Furthermore, the gap between GP and Specialists is much smaller around 20-30k difference.

Pssst... hey, I would not want to say this very loudly... but your ignorance is showing. 🙄

Pediatrician pretax earnings of less than 100k is not uncommon -- even among the arguably inflated salary surveys.

I love how his conversion put peds in the UK making about the total US avg... for one of the lowest paid groups.

In effect he said "US docs shouldn't complain. There are poor docs in the UK making more" 😕 true or not..... logic is broken in this one
