Doing content review for biochem. Just reviewed the Michaelis-Menten stuff (for catalyst/enzyme stuff). Lineweaver-Burk plots + related info often follows the MM stuff in biochem courses, though I don't think it's on the AAMC list.

So question, should I know the LB info since it kind of relates to the MM info? Or, since it's not listed, should I not? Thanks for the advice.

I mean, if you have the Michaelis-Menten stuff down (i.e. the equation), the Lineweaver-Burk plot should be quite easy to understand/derive. I don't like getting caught up with terminology so I imagine the Lineweaver-Burk stuff to follow naturally and logically from enzyme kinetics.

The AAMC content outline does not list Hb dissociation curves as a topic, but they do mention HB affinity and cooperativity. You better believe you should know that classic sigmoid shape and the concepts behind it because they serve to illustrate the concept. Both MM ad LB plots have showed up in the AAMC material. It is classic of the AAMC to take info you know well (MM plots) and present it in a new way. The LB blot is just a double reciprocal plot of the same info presented in the MM plot. 1/Vmax vs. 1/Km. It is well within the AAMCs purview to test both. The AAMC outline lists Michaelis-Menten kinetics as a topic. One can present that topic in either plot, and it still conveys the same relationships. Do not look at the outline as an absolute list of what you will see. It is a list of topics/concepts they propose to test you on. How they choose to test a particular topic will vary. Good luck!!
