Could someone explain to me why the y-intercept is 1/Vmax and the x-intercept is -1/Km. Thanks!

Michaelis menten equation is:

v=Vmax/Km+

The lineweaver-burke plot is the inverse.

1/v=Km+ / (Vmax)

rewrite this in the form y=mx+b and you get.

1/V = (Km/Vmax)(1/) + 1/Vmax

Thanks. All this MCAT studying is making me forget basic algebra.

Yea it's easy to get away from the basic concepts, especially in bio when you aren't thinking of math at all.
