Links - Dermpath Fellowships

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How often is the dermpath board given and where do all these path trained dermpaths who fail end up? ....they must take the board a second time. Do they remain in their job positions as board eligible until they pass or are they somewhere in limbo?

Many are probably offered jobs with the condition that they are expected to pass the boards. They may ask you to move on if you fail.

University of Washington has filled.

Dermpath sucks.

What the heck is going on with Vermont, Florida, UMDNJ, Ohio State, Duke, Massachussetts? Anybody heard anything from these programs?

Well, the UMass fellowship director left awhile ago, so I don't know where that leaves the fellowship program until they hire or appoint a new director (maybe they already have). A quick phone call would probably sort that issue out.

Sample phone call to dermatopathology fellowship:

Applicant: "Hello, my name is so-and-so and I am calling to speak with Dr. Skin, is she available?"

Secretary: "No, she's not in."

Applicant: "I'm calling to find out if the dermatopathology fellowship position is still open, do you have any idea?"

Secretary: "Oh, I wouldn't know about that."

Applicant: "Perhaps I could leave a message for Dr. Skin, does she have voice mail?"

Secretary: "You could email her."

Applicant: "Do you know when she will be available?"

Secretary: "Oh she's in and out all the time."

Applicant: "Okay, I'll email her then, have a nice day."

Applicant emails Dr. Skin. Applicant never hears back from Dr. Skin. This is a pretty typical attempt to elicit information, by the way.

Regarding UMass, they do have a new fellowship director, and they are accepting applications for 2009.

Your story forgets the following:

Dr. Skin sends out an email sometime later mentioning that they:
1) Filled the position X (days, weeks, months) ago
2) Just finished interviewing
3) Have closed the application process & are beginning interviews

If it makes anyone feel better, the above scenario isn't specific for DP. I encountered the same situation when I was applying for SP.

What happened to lusibari's profile? How come she is on as a "guest"?

I am curious as to what happened as well. It seems odd.

Someone becomes a "guest" when they PM memberservice and ask for their account to be deleted. You will see it from time to time.

Thanks. Ive never seen that before. I PMed her to ask for some advice and asked her if she was the same person as another SDN user just using a different screen name (because their posts are so similar...you know same issues, style of writing, both applying for dermpath etc). I wonder if maybe that struck a chord because she thought she maybe "out". I wont post the other user name because obviously it bothers her...dont know why. I dont know her real identity anyway!
