Anybody know a page where it shows the number of Advanced and number of categorical spots for each program??? I tried Freida and the different programs webpages and for the most part they are not very helpful.

Which brings me to my second question of I'm wondering if it is dumb for me to be accepted to a DO Transitional year and not apply to any Categorical spots? Dumb in that I'm hurting my chances of getting accepted, but I guess the question comes down to how many advanced spots are there vs Categorical (i.e looking for a webpage that has the numbers). I hope this makes sense; any DO's out that can help me with this dilemma.

Thanks for your time and help,

No, it is not dumb. I know of several DO's that did an AOA internship and then went on to their respective three-year programs in anesthesia. It all depends on what you want to do. I went the categorical route because of the ICU experience afforded me by my program--I thought that this would be the best preparation for anesthesiology. You will find that anesthesia programs are starting to trend toward four-year programs.

Once you register for NRMP, you can go on the NRMP website and look at each program and see how many Advanced and Categorical spots a program will have for this year's match. However, the programs can change the number of spots until a certain date, either in January or February. (sometimes programs are waiting for a approval for increase of residency positions). You can also look at each program on the ACGME website, which might be helpful also.
