Did anybody get an "applicant information" booklet from Penn? I thought the secondary would be included but it's not... it just seems like a run of the mill brochure thing. am I missing something in the booklet or what?

Nope, missmod, I got the same thing so I think it was just a brochure/viewbook. Same with Hopkins today, as someone else mentioned.

did anyone hear from UCs or USC yet?

I have gotten a secondary request from UCSD and only an email from Irvine telling me they've received my primary, but that's all. no word from the others or USC yet. I still have my fingers crossed for the cali schools 🙁 . I don't think USC screens though.... i could be wrong.

Hey everybody,
SHould I be worried that it looks like most of my schools have transmitted, about 2/3, and I have only gotten 3 secondaries?🙁

MDmiracle are most of the schools you haven't heard from on this list? What schools are you hoping to hear from? You should go ahead and email Jefferson and GW and ask them for secondaries because they've been having probs with their system.

I got jeffs, Not GW( cather PM'd the app though). University of Washington has given me their's but i am not transmitted acording to AMCAS. There are 4-5 more that I haven't gotten that are on the list but all are via snail mail.

Anyone know when Harvard and Mt. Sinai will send out their secondaries???

University of Michigan sent me a secondary (link, via email). When I checked my application status online, they already OK'd me for an interview! I called to see it was a glitch and the person said that it wasn't. Based on my AMCAS submission I got to skip the secondary and go straight to the interview. Anyone else have this happen?

Dude, Niiiice.
Congrats man. One less step than the rest of us.

That's awesome! Are you in state or out of state? I didn't get the auto interview invite, I just got the secondary and LOR request emails (out of stater, not Cali--just saying that cuz I read on a thread here that they may give second priority to Cali people). Congrats!

I'm a Californian resident, so I'm sort've surprised U. of Michigan did this.

Hi Pikayou, congrats! Where on the UM status page can you check your interview status?

On the main page, one of the menu items at the top is Status. When I click it, the page that comes up says:

Application Status as of 07/23/2003

We are offering you an interview. We have sent you a letter via US mail with potential interview dates. Please call the office to schedule your interview. If you have already called, we are hereby confirming your scheduled interview date: __ As someone invited for an interview, you must read and confirm your acceptance of our Technical Standards form. If you have not already done so, please do that now by clicking here.

Downstate sent their email yesterday, it's a workable PDF but the font is minuscule. Ok to type the courses and 'what am I doing this year?' question seperately.

And now I'm done! My first secondary 😀

Bum ba da bump!
Butter..... Parkay!

Wow, congrats on your UMich INTERVIEW invite!!

Maybe Hopkins will email me : no need to interview. You're in.

Ah, American Pie (by Don Maclean) can make you think weird things.

Hi there,

I also received the U Michigan interview by seeing my status page on the webpage - so are you guys sure that means that I don't have to do the secondary, because nowhere on the page does it explicitly state this. Did the admissions committee confirm this?

I am also an out of state resident, and find this hard to believe.

Thanks!
portage

How do you find your status page? Does it come in an email? I cant seem to find the link to enter the status page, if someone could post it that would be great.

Hey SDN'ers,

First off, congrats Pikayou, pretty awesome that you got an interview invite!!!! I would be stoked if I were you!!!!

Now, back to me and my po' self. I applied to U Mich, and haven't received anything from them. This leads me to believe that I have not made the first cut to the secondary application stage, but does U mich. even screen primaries before sending out secondaries (like stanford, or as i've read here, Northwestern)?

Effectively, should I be feeling bad, or should I wait? Or should I call (meaning, have you guys who received the email receive it recently, or a whiles back)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

🙂

Portage-are you from Cali? Also, congrats!

We should get the ball rolling and start up an official interview invite thread like last years. Hopefully more offers are coming soon!! 🙂

Umm, what I know about Michigan's screen for secondaries/LORs is only from what I've read from other threads. It can't be just based on numbers though because I am out of state and my numbers pale in comparison to the superstars on this site. [Some of ya'll have SICK gpa/mcat combos 😉] So it looks like they did take time to look at the whole app, at least I'm thinking in my case. Cuz I didn't hear anything from Case Western, so they may have weeded me out.

What I did read is that if you have a 3.5 and a 33 instate you automatically get an interview.

They give second interview priority to Cali people since there are so many of them.

Apparently only 25% of people receiving secondaries will get LORs?

This is all from a thread that is on the second or third page of this forum. I gotta jet to work, so I can't look for it now but it's there somewhere. When I get back I can post the link for you guys, but you need a password to get in and it's personalized to each individual.

Being a lazy ass that I am, I just turned in my AMCAS application 2 days ago. How long does it take for secondaries to come by and stuff. thanks

Here is the link to the status page:

https://soleus.msis.med.umich.edu/appstatus/logon.jsp

The password is supposed to be your last name. From reading old posts, it seems like we will still have to do the secondary and everything, but they are just guaranteeing an interview I think.
What do other people's status pages say?

You know its taking everything in me to keep from trying to log on before they email me.

Now I wish I'd applied to Michigan so I could get in on all this excitement. I want an interview too!

Its not too late... A quick visit to the AMCAS site, and for the low low cost of $30, this excitement can be yours!

Hmmm....what do you have to have to get a guaranteed interview? High stats? Connections? A good PS? or do you have to be a resident of Michigan or California? I want to make sure it would be worth my while....

I just got the email too. You are extremely quick!!! Does everyone get this email. Does penn said this to everyone and is this how we access the secondary?

thanks,

ap

haha! I finally got to be the first person to post a secondary.

Yes, everyone gets a secondary and yes, that's how we access it. I'm just looking over it now, and it appears that there is no essay! Woohoo!

In fact, I can confirm that there is no essay with this outstanding example of good grammar from their website:

"Notice! Penn do not require an essay on Supplemental application to the MD program."

How's that for Ivy League?

I called the admissions office, and the interview thing is not a mistake. My impression is that they offer immediate interviews to people with good stats. I'm not sure what the criteria is for Michigan or Cali residents, though.

Anyone hear from the University of Pittsburgh yet?

should I send in the secondaries of schools who post them online even if I havent heard anything from the school yet?

Julian, I haven't gotten anything from pitt yet. Last year I think they didn't get any secondaries out until around mid -august. They do that odd interview before secondary step for a select few and that may slow them down. who knows.

As for sending in secondaries for one's online before they contact you, I would say go for it so long as you know they don't screen. A bunch like case will require a password, so you won't be able to, but for schools like einstein, I'm just going to go ahead and send it in.

I havent received anything from Pitt or JHU yet. It seems that I am 1-2 days behind other SDNers in getting secondary requests, which could be because I submitted in late June maybe?

I have solid stats, I dont have any connections whatsoever to UM or any other med school unfortunately. My PS is decent. Im not a Michigan resident.

Im guessing its some combination of stats, ECs, and PS, since they have little to no way of knowing if you have connections until the secondary is finished.

Anyone hear from Harvard or Mount Sinai?

Just got a secondary from UC Irvine via email.
