This came up in the TPR thread so I went back to my old notes to find the list. Turns out it was less books than I thought 😛.
Anyway there are apparently 7 readings that come up pretty often on the verbal section. I definitely wouldn't suggest reading all of these books - that would be a waste of time - but if you're struggling with the verbal section and are looking for every edge you can get, it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with these authors and the general gist of these books. Also, reading parts of these books may get you accustomed to the writing style used in MCAT passages.
"The Burden of the Past & the English Poet" by Walter Jackson Bate
"The Hero with a Thousand Faces" - Joseph Campbell
"The Story of Civilization" - Will Durant
"The Story of Philosophy" - Will Durant
"The Theory of Literature" - Renee Willick & Austin Warren
Stephen Jay Gould <--- You Psych majors probably know all about this guy 😉
"Meaning in the Visual Arts" - Erwin Panofsky
"Metaphors We Live By" - George Lakoff & Mark Johnson
