List recommendation requirements for each school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Tweetie, the answer to question #1 is that it depends on the school. ECU required that I send them a letter from a sci. faculty that had taught me in a class and had given me a grade. All other schools accepted the letter from my PI. I called ECU up and they let me substitute a non-sci letter for my second science letter. I say send in your PI's letters and let them contact you if there is a problem.
For #2, ECU "requires" 2 sci professors, but I don't think anything is set in stone. I didn't get in though, so I'll never know whether or not that made a difference.

I've been in a similar quandry about "science" faculty. Is epidemiology enough of a "science" for some schools? What about my PI who's an MD?

I've called a number of schools, and all of them said that epi=science, and that my PI = science. The only prob may be schools that request two letters from undergrad sci people. In that case, does my psych prof count? I'm still not sure. But if an adcom doesn't like my letters, they can kiss my ass.

AdCadet,
I heard somewhere on SDN that psych profs don't count as Science. 🙁 I wish they did, I have a ton of physio psych classes .....

In any case, I'm looking for more opinions. While I do this, I am calling each school and asking them about their (anal) requirements. I already have one sci and one non-sci, PLUS 3 other PI's. How much more can they want???

Thanks for your help guys. Keep the opinions coming.

UCSD is very strict on their req:

Submit a Premedical Committee recommendation or letters coordinated by the Premedical Advisor at your undergraduate school. If you do not have a Premedical Advisor or Committee, a minimum of three letters are required from faculty (senior professors) who can provide a well considered evaluation of your qualifications for the medical profession. (Two of the three must be from faculty at a four-year undergraduate institution in either the Departments of Biology or Chemistry. The third recommendation must be in humanities or social sciences. If you are currently in a graduate program, the third letter may come from your graduate professor.) Your AMCAS I.D. or Social Security number should be on the recommendations. A MAXIMUM OF FIVE LETTERS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Recommendations mailed prior to our request will need to be resubmitted.

bump!!
I need this for reference later on.😀

Here's the list I made for myself. When it says professor/faculty/instructor that means someone who has taught you in a class where you earned credit.

That being said, I have a question of my own. Are TA (teaching assistant) evaluations acceptable? Obviously a professor is preferred but does anyone know what a school's reaction is when they see a letter written by a TA?

(bump)

So anyway, I was doing a search and came across this useful (but old) thread. Hopefully most of this information is still valid for the 2006 application cycle. If there's a newer thread on this topic, I apologize, and someone point me to it please.
