Hehe, I get propranolol 40 mg bid for migraine prophylaxis. So far I think it's working (haven't been on long enough to know for sure). But yeah, no migraines AND decreased stress response = good.

Vitamin L all the way.

AUGMENTIN, DITTO.

grandma? is that you?

my grandma takes augmentin for everything, tries to pass it off onto friends who have everything from ingrown toenails, tonsilitis, angina, and color blindness to a dry cough and dizziness. and then she saves the pills she doesn't use, as she stops taking prescribed meds when she "feels better" rather than when they are gone, and then takes them when she "just doesn't feel well." additionally, she takes other people's prescriptions, encourages sharing of medications, passes her drugs off onto anyone with remotely similar symptomes and feels that popping an antibiotic or two will clear up anything that ails you. she is singlehandedly bringing drug resistance to my small hometown. and now she has internet access. god help us all.

Upon further reflection, the response to Ativan can always be augmented with 200mg of succinylcholine.

Takes those shakes right away!

um screw Starbucks, I take caffeine hydrochloride, PO, as needed... which is all the time 😉

By "shakes", are you referring to the "shakes" your chest makes going up and down as you breathe?

It's a pain, all these American books with american words in the good old UK - it just looks so wrong! 😉

I can't say they re-used it via urine filtration... but insulin is pretty dang important to a zillion people.

Q, DO

And we say epinephrine in the states. I can't imagine in my next code asking for adrenaline, I think I'd get some funny looks.

Benedryl is the wonder drug of wonder drugs as far as I'm concerned.

I use it for:

-Allergy symptoms when I'm out of the expensive non-drowsy stuff.
-Mosquito bites. The itchiness that comes with them is basically just a histamine reaction, so if I am covered with them (like after a camping trip), a baking soda bath and two benedryl do the trick.
-Sleep. I don't use as much as you do, Adcadet. 50 mg is enough to knock me out cold for a full 12 hours. I shudder to imagine what 75 mg would do to me.
-Jitters. Just don't overdo it or you will be out like a light!
-Motion sickness. 12.5 or 25 mg before a plane ride and I'm good to go!
-I have heard that it can even be used as a topical pain reliever, but I have never used them for that purpose.

I suspect the pain releaver part is because it can act as a local anesthetic...try breaking open a capsule some time and sucking on it. Just beware of the horrible taste.

And yeah, 75 mg is a lot....50 mg usually works well if I give it enough time to kick in (>1 hour). Although there have been times when 50 mg just never seemed to work. 100 mg and my "pre-dreams" (you know, the stuff you think about just as you are entering sleep) become vivid enough to actually wake me up, defeating the purpose. Not fun.

We Brits use adrenaline as laypeople and professionals (although you could write epinephrine on charts and not have any problems). We do still talk about "epi pens" though... 😕

any allergy meds w/ decongestants (pseudoephedrine). i.e. taking allegera-d really keeps me awake.

If I don't get into med school...

etomidate, Vecuronium, and KCl.

Lasix- luv the way it sounds.

But it inhibits NaCl cotransport at thick ascending limb, can cause hyperuricemia and hyperglycemia ,the other lytes go down because of this "high ceiling diuretic"
Luv it even more for CHF, edema, inappro.ADH secretion, hypercalcemia, some forms of HTN

Also originally used to detect cheating at horse races
Also only drug I know of that made them change the name of another drug, because it sounded so like it----Prilosec originally was called Losec but it had to be changed cause Losec sounded like Lasix
Id never give up the name LASIX
I Luv it!
