I know this has probably been searched and discovered but I'm having a hard time sorting through the myriad of pre-allo posts.

So when applying, besides the obvious Pre-Req's I took at a four-year, I took classes at a JC/Comm. College... "Intro to Chem with Lab; Pre-Calc 1, and Pre-Calc 2. I also took a Physics of Astronomy (a PHY labeled class) at a four year, and again at a JC/Community College prior to taking normal General chem. I took a 4 credit lab class called "Intro to Chem w/lab" that was a 110 class at a JC designed to take before a "normal college" Gen Chem I & II (I was sussing out whether or not I was cut out for thr sciences). They have one of these similar classes at Temple University too so I assume it's kosher to put on my AMCAS, but I want to be sure. The professor described it as "a senior H.S. Chem class, BUT in one semester." Anyway, I wasn't going to count some of these credits but I got A's in all of them (the classes I listed which would amplify my BCMP GPA) except the Astronomy = B, but still would help. Should I count these on my AMCAS?

I'm sure you're sick of these questions so links will be appreciated too.

Thanks again people !!

I have 5 transcripts with over 100 courses, and I survived. You will too.

First, any and ALL college work you did MUST be reported. If you fail to include some of your college coursework, you get busted and kicked out of med school, like in 3rd year when you're already $100k in debt. You have to submit every college transcript you ever earned to AMCAS, and they're going to check everything you say in the app.

Second, in the AMCAS app, you just go line by line by line by line until you have listed every class you ever took. You can start an AMCAS app now (don't submit it, you can't anyway) to see how it works. If I remember right, the creative part for us multiple-mess-of-transcripts folks is in assigning Freshman/Soph/Junior/Senior to each term.

Best of luck to you.

that was definitely the hardest part. i think all jc classes count towards junior year even if you've taken them during your senior year. look it up in the amcas manual to make sure.

Boy, tough call. What I saw in the handbook was that each year of school is 30 semester (or 45 quarter) units and that's supposed to be the cutoff. I tried to be religious about this, but when I got my AMCAS report back they weren't that hardcore.

Don't fret about it, just do the best you can. You can worry about whether each item on each line of your AMCAS report reflects you favorably, or just git 'er done.

I will definitely report every little dinky course I've ever taken. Believe me, I understand that there's something called The National Student Clearinghouse and other ways that schools can detect a wild goose chase. I'm not trying to hide my past - just how to accurately post it so that I get everything in ASAP w/out any fallbacks. All the AMCAS talk about delays in your app b/c of reporting classes in the wrong way scares me - but at the same time I want to take advantage of every BCMP class I have taken because I feel I did well. It's a call I have to make between reporting classes like "Principles of Astonomy" where I got a B (among others). It may actually help me decide between applying straight out with confidence or throwing in extra money for that SMP (just in case). I'm just weighing out my options. There's some grey area when it comes to CC classes that preceed Gen Chem, Bio, and Physics. Do you count a "Survey of Physics" class????

Regardless, thanks for the deep breath. You guys are definitely helpful at times. (seriously - no sarcasm intended). 😳
