Quick question: I have a volunteer position where I had training for the month but it wasn't until 2 months later that I was assigned to a patient to volunteer for. When I include the start date should I include the training month? For example, my training month was September but I began to volunteer there in December. Should i just say the start date is September but make a note in the description that that was my training date and that I was assigned to patients in December? Thanks

The start date should generally include the training month. In any case, med schools are unlikely to focus intensely on the date you started. You started your volunteer work in September by training for it, and I don't think there's any need to put a note in your description about when you first stepped foot in the clinic. After all, you weren't paid for your training time, were you?

In the end it is going to be irrelevant but I would included the start date - training to learn how to do something is certainly pertinent and no one will fault you for including it.

If it were a job your training counts as your start date. Same thing here.
