Should I list my Senior Superlative - "Best Smile" under awards? I think that it shows some personality but I'm really not sure if it's a good idea. I do have other awards so it wont be the only one lol

Great idea...except they won't know if you're joking. You might be joking and cute, or you might be a *****. They will have no way of knowing which is the truth.

If I were an admissions person, I would find this hilarious. It makes you stand out. But you certainly run the risk of someone not understanding that it is a joke. That's a tough one, but if it were me, I would probably play it safe and not put it in...

Darn, I was hoping it would make me stand out in a good way

You could put (jk jk lol) in parentheses next to your smile award. Then they would know for sure you were kidding.

You could mention it on the secondaries that have an "Anything Else" section. But everyone is right, if you get someone with a sense of humor it will help you, if not, it might hurt you.

I wouldn't explicitly list it as an award, but for extra information it could elicit a laugh

wolfie77- Well I actually did win the award. Maybe I'll cut it out from the senior superlative section of my yearbook and send it 😛

Maybe save that for the interview. The written application is supposed to be serious and professional.

Write "What gets easier to pick up as it gets heavier? A woman."

It's hard to pick up jokes on a written paper or a computer screen. Unless you want ADCOM to make a joke out of your application, I would suggest leaving it out. In the end of the day you're joking with them, they have the right to joke around with your application right?

Medicine is still a relatively conservative field. I would gauge your interviewer on their sense of humor and save it for then.

Best case scenario: Two second smirk.
Worst case scenario: Throws your application away.

Is this too much of a joke? This is from a diversity essay talking about my time in the south and in the UK:

Besides learning how to use the word "y'all" and the many uses of "cheers," we talked with our hosts about...

i dont find that "best smile" funny at all..
if you're going to do a joke go for one of those "your mom"

I liked the OP's humor, it does show some personality. But as someone else said, humor is quite subjective and can be hard to pick out on paper.. a wink after it would help here, but that doesn't seem very appropriate for the application either lol. Putting this down might also increase your interviewers' expectations of you during the interview day 😛.

I found this a bit over the top and not very funny, sorry. It almost seems to me like you're making fun of people from the south, could potentially be offensive to some people. I wouldn't use this.

No. You can mention it during the interview at an appropriate time to get a laugh - if you have connected with the interviewer.

Your college had superlatives? Damn.

Anyways... just show off your best smile in your headshot and also at your interviews when you get them. No need to be redundant 😉

Thanks for the feedback! That's what I was looking for. And most of my jokes aren't very funny so no need to be sorry 😀

Gonna need you to provide picture proof. The picture should have your smile and also have your SDN username written on your teeth (1 letter / tooth).

Hm. I liked it.

Don't take yourself too seriously. I would risk it for a little bit of color on my application.

Maybe dental schools would be more receptive to this joke.....

It's hilarious, but I think some people would say it's not something you put on a professional application.

Definitely save the jokes for interviews. Even then, be wary and gauge your interviewer. From personal experience, I can tell you that nothing is more awkward than trying to joke around with a cold, humorless interviewer 😳.

By the way OP, you're a Wilfred fan? I love that show, don't know of anyone else who watches it. It's so trippy and odd, but amusing.
