Personally, I think that the site is very helpful and a great tool for all of us, just like SDN. If SDN needs to use advertising in order to stay afloat and help us all out, then why can't MDapps.com? Screw law school, make the Benjamins however you can - just no pop-up ads. 😀

It wouldn't be a big deal. You SHOULD also let profilers have the option to be contacted through your site, w/o giving out the email address... just a form that says " contact applicant". Google wont hurt, you got bills to pay. 👍

If you want to contact people anonymously on the web, use match.com. 😉

It'd be a non-trivial programming investment to develop a semi-blind e-mailer like that...perhaps over Christmas break when my girlfriend is in Africa, anyway....

when I saw the title of the thread, I didn't realize that MDApps was your website, and I was thinking "What kind of jerk would put ads in their MDApps profile??"

It's your site, you shouldn't feel the least bit guilty for trying to keep costs down (or even turn a few dollars from it - I'm sure you've put in the time behind it).

I added a single Google AdSense text box to the View Profile page on the site; I decided on this because 1) it's the most-viewed page on the site, 2) it doesn't have any navigation elements to impact with clutter, 3) it's theoretically the best exit-point to a visit and 4) there was a nice blank space in the upper-right corner of that page and required the least modification.

And since Google lets you custom-color the ads, it doesn't offend terribly much...example:

So far, it looks like I shouldn't have to poison the site any further to sufficiently defray hosting costs....

Oh, and BTW, does anyone know anything about typosquatting? Someone's (nameking.com) got mdapplicant.com now...and it's just all advertising crap....
