I've just bought Littmann Cardio III and I wonder if it's normal that I can hear some kind of crack when I use small side and change (pressure) from diaphragm to bell mode.
yes. there is a small bearing that closes off the "unused" portion, and this is what you hear. if you put it on the diaphragm mode, look at the bell and you might be able to see the bearing i am talking about.I've just bought Littmann Cardio III and I wonder if it's normal that I can hear some kind of crack when I use small side and change (pressure) from diaphragm to bell mode.
ah, i think i see what you're saying. in that case, though, i can't answer your question. i don't have the small diaphragm on, i just keep it as a bell.Sorry my description wasn't very precise - I meant I can hear some crack/click when I change pressure on the chestpiece from high to low (from diaphragm to bell mode and only when I use small diaphragm) but not while changing side of the chestpeice.
But if JCMS is using the bell side as a tunable diaphragm, that click may be the PVC on the diaphragm ring that will sometimes stick to the metal attenuating ring when you go from high to low frequency. Not sure how to fix that; I don't think it alters the function any.
My impression is that some talc would at least help with the "clicking"; that's what they do when they install the diaphragms at 3M. As for the high frequency problems with the peds side, there are two things to remember: first, it's smaller so it'll naturally have lower amplitude and second, it's much more important to be sure that you're really pushing down on the diaphragm to be sure that you have a good seal against the metal ring.
